Our Learning Assistant Mrs Norton

Room 12 is very lucky to have the lovely Mrs Norton as our learning assistant this year. Mrs Norton's kind words and encouraging smile is helping us to take risks with our learning. She tests our ABCs and high frequency words every month. Miss S uses this information to help inform future planning and teaching. Mrs Norton tops up our high frequency word pockets. She also works 1:1 or takes small groups of students for Patch Play- which encourages Oral Language interaction, high frequency words groups, ABC groups and fine motor skills groups. Mrs Norton and all the learning assistants at Sunnyhills School are a great asset to the foundation learning that takes place in the Junior School. We thank the Board of Trustees for making it possible for us to have our wonderful learning assistants! We hope you enjoy the photos of Mrs Norton supporting us in using our new Brain Box Circuit Kits.

Handwriting

In Handwriting we are learning to form letters and numbers correctly We know that we are successful when we: * Use the correct starting point * Make the letters sit on the line or have the tail go under the line * Use finger spacing. Some of the ways we learn how to write letters and numbers correctly * Use chalk on the concrete * Use our whiteboard and whiteboard pen * Use shaving foam and our fingers * Use the sand tray * Use our handwriting books.

Super Duper Eaters

Today Room 12 was chosen by Miss Ramsey as the best eaters at lunchtime. This means we were sitting down and quietly eating over our lunchboxes. We ate our brainfood, then we ate a piece of fruit and had a drink of water. We waited to get our lunchboxes checked, before walking all the way back to class to put our things in our school bag. Awesome team work Room 12!! Teno pai rawa!! Here we are with Iris holding the trophy and us with our thumbs up.

Life Education with Harold

This week Room 12 went for their first visit to the Life Education Caravan 'Harold's Home'. We were very happy to see our friend Etienne, who was very brave because he had broken his leg, but he still came to visit Harold. We miss you Etienne and we can't wait till you come back to Room 12 to stay with us. Room 12 has one more session with Harold tomorrow, but these are some of our ideas so far. Life Education: Social Relationships In Room 12 WALT: Brainstorm our ideas about problems that might happen at school • People using bad touches (Aaron, Sonia, Jason, Jujhar, Caitlin) • People bumping into each other on the playgrounds (Spencer) • People using bad words (Isla) • People snatching (Jason) • People not liking each other (Isla) • People dropping rubbish (Room 12) • People making the Junior trolley messy (Liam) • People not picking up the toys and putting them away (Iris) • People putting the rubbish in the wrong bins (Room 12)
